Research Advisory Committee (RAC)
In August 2009, the MJD Foundation's Research Advisory Committee (RAC) was formed. - The RAC will be the subcommittee responsible for recommending how the MJD Foundation assigns its research budget.
- We are very priviledged to have attracted a range of highly talented individuals from around the world to particate in this important committee.
The RAC is chaired by Peter Fisher, and members of the RAC include:
- Professor Garth Nicholson (Anzac Research Institute, Sydney)
- Professor Jorge Sequeiros (Medical Geneticist, Portugal)
- Professor Wieland Huttner (Max Planct Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics, Germany)
- Assoc Professor John MacMillan (Clinical Geneticist, Genetics QLD)
- Dr Howard Flavell (Rehabilitation Medicine Specialst, Royal Darwin Hospital)
- Libby Morgan (MJD Foundation)
- Daniel Lalara (MJD sufferer)
The role of the RAC will be to:
- Work with the Executive Officer to set annual research budget
- Update the annual Grant Information Guide
- Receive and review grant applications
- Assessment of applications
- Rating of applications against each other
- Present recommended projects to the Board for approval
- Discuss/present projects to the Clients, Community and Families for approval
- Support the Executive Officer in applying for funding grants where the desired projects exceed the MJD Foundation budget
- Monitor the performance and activities of the research projects
- Assist with the international communication of projects and publications
- Assist with ethics submissions and approvals
