Gabriellas Holiday of a Lifetime to Sydney
In April 2011, Gabriella took a holiday of a lifetime to Sydney. DAY 1 On Easter Saturday, Gabriella, her sister Priscilla, and MJD Foundation's Simone McGrath took the long flight from Darwin to Sydney. They were all very excited when they arrived, and brightened up Sydney airport with their Easter bunny ears and pink bow ties. MJD Foundation's Nadia Lindop picked up the girls from the airport, and it was off to Sydney City to the Meriton World Square apartments where they had a 2 bedroom apartment on level 64!! It was very high, and had fantastic views.

| DAY 2 - Easter Sunday After a sleep in and breakfast, Nadia and her kids (Sophie and Riley) came in and we all went walking around exploring the city (with bunny ears on of course). Sydney Centrepoint Tower was the hit of the day with amazing views. And the weather was kind to us, with the sun coming out just as we got to the top. Hungry Jacks for lunch, then more walking about the city.
|
| | That night we all went to an Easter family BBQ at Nadia's house. Gabby especially loved the food, and the Mousaka that Nadia's sister Kirin made was a big hit. It ended up being lunch the next day too! Nadia's nephew Tom provided the entertainment, dancing for Gabby.

DAY 3 - Anzac Day Today was pretty much a lazy day, with a big sleep in, a long breakfast and a little bit of city shopping. Then it was watching some DVD's and listening to music. Simone managed to fit in a 10 km run around the harbour though!
| DAY 4 - Tuesday - Sydney Harbour, Taronga Zoo, Opera Bar Today we set off down the Circular Quay to see Sydney's amazing harbour. The Opera House, Harbour Bridge and the beautiful water. There's no better way to enjoy the harbour than to catch a Sydney Ferry, so we jumped on a ferry over to Taronga Zoo. The weather was a bit cold, but beautiful when the sun came out. It was a great day to go to the Zoo, as most of the Easter crowds had gone. Gabby especially liked the angry tiger who was pacing around his cage. We missed the seal show, but the seal keeper brought the sea lion right over to Gabby and did a special show just for her.
|
Once back at the Opera House, we went to the famous Opera Bar and enjoyed some warm food and a cocktail before heading back to the apartment.
| DAY 5 - Wednesday - SYDNEY ROYAL EASTER SHOW A really big day today at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. It was exhausting, but loads of fun. - We went on the big Ferris Wheel
|
| Day 6 - Thursday - Cocktail Party One of the things Gabriella wanted to do in Sydney is have a party so we held a cocktail party in the girl's apartment with old and new friends. It was a lovely night, with party food, lots of music, and raspberry flavoured cocktail that made Gabby's tongue go red! And yes, everyone had a go of that wig!!!
|
DAY 7 - JUSTIN BIEBER in Concert Well the big surprise was seeing Justin Bieber live in concert. We are pretty sure Gabby already knew about the surprise (as I think a few people accidently dropped it in Darwin), but she went along with the "surprise" in good humour. The long curly wigs from the cocktail party got turned into Justin Bieber wigs and whilst Simone and Nadia cringed at the high pitched non stop screaming of girls going crazy, we soon realised what all the fuss is about. That boy has certainly got some talent. Gabby just loved the concert, and we have some footage of her dancing along with some of Justin's hits.

It will certainly be a trip that Gabriella will remember. Thanks to the MJD Foundation team for making it happen, and to Donna for getting Priscilla organised for the plane in Nhulunbuy. |
